Friday Fun

What a busy term so far. Room 14 has been learning to dance. We 've been going to the hall on Friday mornings, with the rest of the Year 4's, learning different ways to move our bodies. It has been heaps of fun.

Swim Sports Day

On your marks, set, clap... What a great time we had on Swim Sport Day. Check out some of our recounts about the day and the moment in time photos.

Pushum, I shot out as fast as I could, pushing with all of my might. As we passed the flags I got a bit more confident. Bump, I hit the edge of the pool and I finished second. When I got out of the pool I was as cold as an ice cube. Luckily I dried off and put my shirt on. Then I got some blue face paint and a blue hat and also a sign! I was cheering as loud as I could! “Go Wainoni, Let’s Go,” I shouted. When we walked back to our class I wrote a whole story about it.

I was at the edge of the pool, holding confidence in my hand. “WWWWW!” The whistle blew. I popped in the pool, it was cold at first, then a strong breeze came and I froze for a split second. I got into position then… Bam we were off. It was all quick thoughts, arms up, arms down, etc, etc, legs up, legs down, etc, etc. “Splash, splash, splash.”    By Callum

On a sunny Tuesday morning all the year 4 classes went down to go swimming outside for swim sports. When it was my turn, I jumped into the water.  I felt eels in my stomach, forward flips, backflips and swirls, and everyone was shouting. “WHOA, Go Wainoni!! AOOOOW!” The next thing I heard was the whistle and then Bang!! I was off like a streak of lightning. I couldn’t hear the crowd anymore. I was too fast. Oh no, I think I am going to hit the wall? But… I didn’t, I came 1st! Wow, I was jumping all about. I couldn’t stop. And I don’t know where the eels had gone?

I ran down the grassy hill and sat on one of the rusty benches waiting for my turn at swimming sports. Suddenly all the 8 year olds gathered to do freestyle. Next it was my go, my face frightened with fear, goose bumps shrivelled up my legs. I hopped in. Splash! My heart was beating like a cheetah running. Bang! I had to start swimming, so I swam. Everybody started cheering wildly. I could hear them cheering when I was under water. I made it finally to the end of the pool. I got out and snuggled into my towel. I shrivelled up. I said to myself, that wasn’t that bad at all. After a few minutes I got changed. “Phew wee,” I said. That was a trying day.

On a windy Tuesday morning we lined up on the grass for swim sport. Suddenly Mrs HJ called out 8 year old girl’s freestlye. Goosebumps slowly crawled up my back. Everybody started cheering. It felt like my tummy was going to explode. My eyes stared at the pool. Then I had to get in the pool. It was as cold as the Arctic Ocean. The clappers went and I raced like a rocket to the end of the pool. My heart was pumping really hard like an elephant jumping on my chest. I finally reached the end of the pool. What a relief! I came second! I still had one more race but I wasn’t nervous because now I had experienced it before. My second race was breaststroke. The same thing happened except when I looked to the side, no one was there. Although they were behind me I still tried my best. WOW I came 1st!!! What a great day I had coming 1st and 2nd. I can’t wait till next year swimming sport.

Last Tuesday it was amazing hot and I was excited for our school swim sport day. There were flutter board, backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke races. As I hopped into the pool, I realised it was freezing. I had goose bumps all over. For a second I froze. Then I heard the clapper go, that was it, we were off. My heart was pounding as if I was winning. I reached the end but came second. As I was going back to my spot the next race started. I realised that one of my friends was in that race. I cheered as loud as a lion. I even had a pompom. Next it was my go again and my friends were cheering for me. I felt as strong as a shark. I even felt so good I started off like a stingray. Soon swim sports was over and sadly I did not make it into inter-school. Swim sports are the best.

One sunny Tuesday it was swim sport day. We waited for everyone to come. First it was the eight year old boys in freestyle. I was in it. Everyone was cheering loudly. They did their house colours chants. The sky was blue and the clouds were rising. I felt I would explode. I was so nervous. I had butterflies in my stomach. Wheees went the whistle. Bree, bree, bree went my nerves and now in the pool. Bang went the claps. I was off like a rocket. The other people were gaining on me but they weren’t fast enough. My heart was pumping as fast as lightning. Bang went my hand touching the wall. I looked at my fingers. They were already wrinkled. I came first. I was proud.   By George

                  Welcome to Room 14

What a wonderful start to 2014. We have a delightful group of year 4's keen to share their ideas on what it takes to be a good learner. We have been busy looking at and discussing our Greenhithe School values and are focussing on "Perseverance" this term. Our one classroom expectation is "Integrity" and how we always try to make good choices in our learning and interactions with others.
